Finally....after about 5 months on order and two months dealer delay, I got my new 5 Series. I took my old 2004 E60 530D SE in and drove off in a new 2008 530d M-Sport Touring, Platinum Grey, Black Dakota, Sports Auto Transmission, Heated seated, full Media Pack, USB audio, anthracite bamboo trim, black on black on black interior, side blinds, etc.....

Haven't had much time to play yet, but initial impressions are very good indeed The car is much tighter than the old one, but yet has a better ride ( I think this is down to improvements in run flats over the last 4 years). I am also very pleased with the handling and steering as I didn't order Active Steering or Dynamic Drive (I don't think you can get DD on the Tourings anyway) on this car although the last one had both - nonetheless, this one feels more stable and precise. The last one was good - but this one is definitely better.

The iDrive is nicer due to Pro vs. Business nav and the full connected drive media install. iPod integration is superb. I also really like the Platinum Grey colour - in the daylight it's not too dark, but at night it looks kind of sinister - which is good.

It's definitely faster and smoother. I dropped it into sports mode as I joined the motorway on the way home, and was surprised to find I was doing 110MPH by the time I had left the slip road. Naughty, but nice. Big grins.....

Celtic tuning remap planned soon to take her from 235 to 296 horsies. I guess I'd better wait for the 1200 mile run in period though.

Some pics attached - the sun was pretty low by the time I got home so i will try for better soon - the interior looks washed out due to flash, but is actually about as black as it is possible to get inside a car. Will post more once I have more time to try her out properly. Only 150 miles on the clock right now.

Sharp! You did pick the best color and the sport model looks vey agressive.

Thanks!

I wasn't sure about the E61 body shape, but I needed to get it as I have a huge 45Kg dog (Scottish Deerhound) that can't share the front footwell with my wife anymore...it just wasn't fair on the dog.

Having spent time looking at it though..... I really like it. Kind of makes the back end look more muscular

Don't worry about them meds. IT IS crazy that only we and a few other countries have the wheel on the right. It would make cars a lot cheaper for a start - this E61 cost ?45K in the UK (c.$90K US).....luckily enough, I get it paid for. If I lived in the US, I probably could have got the M5 E61 version for less money - go figure.....
