Jimmy,
I assume that you're in US or your car is US spec:
The only way to roll up windows from outside of the car is inserting your car key in the key hole, lock the car and hold it for a few seconds and windows/sunroof will roll up.
I've been told that other E60 in other country can have windows roll up using remote control lock button.

Yep. Over here we can close all windows with the remote.
But there is no such feature what automatically closes the windows after a certain time when the car is parked with it's engine off...

And don't forget our friends, the lawyers! I'm not sure all of these options not being available here the the US are just because of the DOT.

yes, in UK too we can close the windows with the remote (and also the mirrors if your car has that feature).

mmm im a lawyer myself and you know.. you cannot blame the lawyers, but the people who use them or the laws. there are laws in EVERY country but sometimes i just think some systems are abused. Remember, its not bullets who kill people but people itself

we get pretty good stuff mostly euro specs, but we dont get to choose all the options we want, you either get a 530 or a 545 with the "standard features".

sometimes this is better than the US specs, like the M3, which in mexico was sold with the big euro engine and not the smaller version

anyhow.. yes we do get the folding mirrors and the windows closing with the remote feature

My apologies Mex, you are correct about lawyers, though here in the US system we have plenty of lawyers who glady exploit the system for their own gain (Yes, they are generally the exception, but those glaring examples blind most from the work of others). Heck, we even have one running for Vice President! (oops, maybe I've opened a can of worms! ) Anyway, we here in the US have become a country of people not willing to take responsibility for our own actions, it is always someone elses fault, so we sue. Please don't sue me for slander Mex!
