I purchased the iPod kit (MOST Interface) from Sterling BMW in Newport Beach. After installing the hardware, I found out that my iDrive software needs upgrading and retrofiting.

The installation instructions claim that the entire install, including software changes, requires 0.75 labor hours. However, Sterling wants to charge me 2.0 labor hours to do the software alone. I'm pretty ticked, particularly since I've serviced 5 different vehicles there in the past 2 years. You'd think they'd appreciate one's business.

Does anyone have a suggestions for getting the software changes done for free or cheaper? I've read that some have used S.I. B01 03 06 to get their software updated for free. Would appreciate your advice on using this Service Bulletin or finding a dealer that will offer a more reasonable rate.

Hey Brett,
I took my 04 530i to Sterling to get the iPod retrofit also. I don't remember it being called MOST. Maybe I got something different. Anyways, they updated my software for free. My service advisor was Chris. Maybe you should talk to him. Sorry I'm not much help.

They will do the MP3 retrofit for free, but if you didn't have a CD changer installed previously, you will need to have that coded. They charged me $110.
