I am not a fan of itunes and was wondering if some Windows Media Player compatible MP3 player will also work seamlessly with my new car. I am new to this stuff. My Kids have IPOD shuffles so I have used Itunes.

Any comments or solutions. Can music be put on an IPOD without itunes?

I think limewire (limewire.com) is a free P2P shareware site that can download songs to an iPod, although I have not tried it myself.

The BMW iPod adapter will only work with iPods. The AUX input will work with any audio source.

If you have a PC, then you can use programs other than iTunes to load music on an iPod. MediaMonkey is one example. On a Mac, I don't think you have any choice but to use iTunes.

I believe the USB port will accept USB memory sticks with MP3, AAC, WMA ect... files one it and allow you to play them> At least thats what I think my user manual says.

Oh yes!
I'm currently using a regular 4GB USB stick from Kingston filled with music.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a retrofit for this USB thing? I would rather do this than plunk down on the IPOD retrofit.

I did not own an iPod until I took delivery of my 535i. I'm now a fan. The interface is seamless, and the sound is outstanding.

The manual does indicate that you can also use USB memory sticks with the iPod/USB option.

i think the shuffle function on a ipod is the coolest thing. YOu can play at random dvd files but ones you listen to a song on your drive (cd or dvd) and you skip it : the at random function is gone and you have to go to idrive and reset the at random play music button by reactivating it while in ipod if you skip a song , it keeps on surprising you jumping to a song why up or down the list.

I like to be surprised and that is the key feature of a ipod or other device against a usb stick or dvd or cd. The cd or dvd plays at random until you skip a song and that the end of it
