I just bought an iPod interface for my 2006 530i manufacture date 3/05. I have the ability to play mp3 discs from my in dash cd player but not from the cd changer.

I did the DIY install of the interface and my iPhone charges from it but the idrive won't recognize the cd option.

I know this sometimes requires a software update, but from what I have read as long as I can play MP3 discs in the in dash CD player I shouldn't need the update.

Any help/information on this subject would be helpful.

Thanks

Nope , you need coding to enable the iPod interface ... especially if you don't have Navigation.

Hi,

The CD changer is not MP3 capable, but you got rid of it anyway when you installed the IPOD interface.
You would need to enable the interface by adding the +IPOD option in the VO list. This can be done at the dealer or by a handy coding expert.

To do the coding I'm assuming I would need the unit that plugs into the car, or at least someone in my area who has one and the knowledge of how to use it. I'm afraid I am out of luck there.

Has anyone had the coding done by a dealer? If so about how much did it cost so I can make sure my dealer doesn't try to screw me.

Thanks

Call up & query you local dealer ... it depends sometime they'll jack up the price 'cuz you've done your own install by telling they have to re-do the whole car etc but if you have a good relationship w/ the dealer they probably go by an hour of standard work ... the actual enable coding itself is less than 5 mins.

I added the Ipod interface to my car which was able to play MP3s from the single cd in dash. Still required the programming update - dealer charged me $100.

Good Luck.

Thanks that gives me hope that it will work after the update.

My dealer said it will require an entire software update and will charge 2 hours labor $220. Sounds very steap but looks like its my only option.

Does anyone know of any cool features I could have them add while doing the update?

thats the price they quoted me first but the SA is a good friend of mine. he tried to do his best and i ended up paying 150 to have my car updated so i can play musics on my ipod. 220 sounds not bad to me but try if they can do it for cheaper

Not a bad quote especially since you have no other option ... add what cool future? The dealer have will have no clue ... for example ask them to enable the digital speedo ... they probably just drop their jaw and go gaga ... my dealer couldn't believe bunch of stuff I coded to my car are even possible.
