so i just got a new 530i (august make)

in the manual, they are talking about 2 AUX ports - USB and standard Jack, wich you use (both) to connect an iPod

but my car only has a jack port. any idea why no USB?

would i be able to connect iPod without the USB port?

:(

Check the glove compartment. Some say there's a USB connector in there....

ok i will.

but strangely, the pic in the manual shows them both one beside another

(where the back passengers Air Conditioning panel is)

god dammit.

i read some threads and it seems that a USB port is an "option"

any idea what the AUX jack if used for then?

It is standard Aux-in, you can connect iPod from the headphone connector to that one and then select Aux-in from the iDrive to listen your iPod.

how is it different from the 6FL then?

will I lose any music quality or any other options?

would i need any special cables to connect it? (ipod headphone exit <--> AUX)

thanks.

thanks.

If you connect your iPod using only the audio cable, you won't be able to use iDrive to control or otherwise view track listings, etc. on the iPod.

What you have is the standard auxiliary input with no USB or iPod interface...

i see the panel inside the armrest compartment where the iPod/USB pots should be

do you think the dealer should be able to install this option?

yes they could and i would say go for it. it really is worth it with the USB and iPod interface. i love mine and ive also noticed when i undocked my ipod and stuck in my thumbdrive(listen to music from thumbdrive sometimes) that iDrive automaticaly copied ALL the song from iPod to thumbdrive hmm weird but i dont mind.

Um, I don't think the 6FL option (iPod/USB) can be retrofitted by the dealer. If not, get the iPod adapter that goes in the glove box. I had it in my old 545 and it works well with the iDrive...
