Default Ipod conenction....nothing shows up on Idrive

Today,

I drove down to the dealer to pick up the Iphone/Ipod cable for my 2008 550i. My car has the "ipod /usb audio" option, but I didn't have the cable.

Very simple....plug it in! then, I connected an Iphone and changed the audio selection to "AUX"... and nothing shows up!

I can play music by selecting it from the Iphone, but there are no songs, artists, playlists, etc on the IDrive menu.

It is acting the same way as when I used a basic 3.5mm headphone adapter to play music into the AUX port.

Does the car require some sort of coding to get the Itunes menus to show up on the IDdrive?

I searched the forums but I didn't find anything. I saw a youtube video of some other adapter that looks just like the factory BMW cable. Everything worked great in that video.

Help!!!

thanks,

Andrew

I presume you bought the Y cable and if so make sure both the 3.5 and USB cables are plugged in within the center console. I initially only plugged in the USB in my 08 550i and scratched my head as to why it wasnt working until I found a post stating both must be plugged in to work and voila. I am now enjoying controlling my iPhone via iDrive.

yup. both plugged in. been reading all over the net. Not sure why this isn't working.

I tried an Iphone 4s and also an Ipad. Nothing happens on either one.

Like I said,I can play audio directly from the I devices, but nothing comes up on the I Drive. neither device charges, either.

I just did the same thing but had perfect results with an iPod Classic 80GB. Haven't tried the iPhone 3GS though. Mine's an '08 (12/07 build) too. Sure you got the right cable?

the part numbr for the cable they sold me is:

61 12 0 440 812.

I believe that corresponds with the 6FL cable.

It's possible that you need to have this turned on via coding. Mine is the same setup as yours and it has always worked. When I added navigation I had to go back in and re-code this because it was not active in the CCC unit that I installed. If you post up the area you are living in maybe someone can help you get this coded.

I'm in Vero Beach, FL.

You'd think all should be fine as this car came with the Ipod option. frustrating

Do you have a plain old iPod or iPhone 3g? Try that out. A lot of old OEM cables crap out with 3GS and newer iPhones and its possible you have one of these.

Just tried an old school, first generation Nano....and it still didn't work. I am starting to wonder if my USB port has a problem.

I guess I should try a USB stick, too.
