Do a search using the terms 'iPod' and 'MOST' and you should find a bunch of information to help you out...

Yes it does give song title and artist. It gives you six playlists which seem to take the place of each cd in a changer situation

I put the iPod adapter in an '06 650i with nav and V23 software. I could see and use all of my iPod playlists and see the song titles and artists. V25 software fixed a few bugs and made it even better. It was as good (or better) functionalily than the integrated iPod adapter in the 08 550i. <- Every restart puts the iPod back to "now playing" on the 550i, not the full playlist that it had been on (as the 650i with the iPod adapter did).

I assume the difference is the Nav. Non nav 5er's required a different adapter if I recall correctly.

My X3 (no nav) is as described. I created BMW1, BMW2, BMW3, etc playlists and sync only those playlists (and their songs) to a 2GB Nano for it.

Sorry but the functionality of the MOST bus interface for iPod is nowhere near that of the built-in iPod/USB option. The MOST bus (which was pretty good when it was introduced, since the alternative was the Aux-in jack) has limitations on the number of files it can handle, it doesn't display Genre, Artist, Album, it can't scroll ahead as quickly, and it doesn't display directory trees.

The only thing the MOST interface does better is Podcast support, and I have BMW investigating why Podcast support was left out of the 6FL option.

To clarify, the adapter replaces the six CD options with CD1*, CD2* etc, which are by function: Playlists, Artists, Albums, Songs etc. Basically the same functions of an iPod or the UBS in newer cars. The day-to-day use is not as functional. The random function is marginal, though I find it only somewhat better in my new 550 with the USB option. I find both repeating songs and artisits way more than my stand-alone Nano does. At least in the software version I have, when you stop the car, the iPod restarted at the beginning of the song rather than simply picking up where the song stopped. Over all I found it a very fair trade-off compared to the six-disc changer in my old 545 and would recommend it. Now if the six-disc changer would play MP3's, that would be a different story...

thanks for the replies.

i never use the changer as i don't buy many cds now.
it seems like it may be worth (?) getting the component. it's $850 that includes installation.

I'm wondering if i could do the installation myself and save $500.

Does this unit charge the connected ipod? So i could just leave the ipod in the glove box

Ja, it charges the iPod.

It can be a DIY if your car has the most recent software (or at least Progman v.23).

If you install it yourself, the dealer can then charge you for a Progman update. If they do it, it's covered by warranty if your car is still under warranty.

One more thing: people have reported an installed price (incl. MOST bus interface adapter) for as little as $500 so it pays to shop around.

Yes, $800 is way too much. Mine was just over $500 for parts, labor and tax...

Mine never left the glove box unless I was traveling and wanted to take the iPod with me.

Edit: To clarify, my install also included a software update...
