Default Intermittent Electrical Fault

Hi all.

New boy here from sunny Hereford, UK.

I have an E61 (525D) with an intermittent electrical fault;

Sometimes the car starts immediately, and runs perfectly.

Sometimes the car will not start. It cranks but will not fire, and the I-drive displays a series of faults, including cruise control failure, fuel pump failure, and fluid levels.

After some messing about with turning ignition to off and on, randomly several times, and disconnecting, and re-connecting the battery, it starts. It then runs perfectly.

Probably not connected, but just to mention, the remote locks have never worked, although I have had one key rebuilt, and tried the usual installation procedure.

Now I do not want to sound like a cheapskate, but I have just paid a guy to replace the rear tailgate wiring, and he (calling himself a specialist) says he thinks it is an ECU failure, and I must get a new ECU, at a horrible cost. So basically just looking for anyone who may have experienced similar problem, and can advise.

Many thanks from Carl
