What you are looking at there is the loss of the rubberised coating. It is applied like paint to the plastic parts. you could strip the parts and have them repainted, but it would probably be cheaper to get the pieces second hand from a breakers. (junkyard)

This reminds me of why I lease. I hate watching a beloved car get old.

I like my cars young and fresh.

Try ebay. You might get lucky sometimes with used parts. Good luck!

Yes, this is a known issue. It becomes problematic because BMW doesnt make these as panels but rather as components. So, if your AC knob has an issue, the entire AC control panel has to be replaced. The same for your radio knob/paint, you have to replace the entire radio assembly to get this fixed... My advice, live with it.. Its not worth the extra $. Let me know if you come up with any other solution and be careful what kind of chemicals you apply to keep the plastic looking clean...prob has a lot to do with it....

I see this happening in a lot of the GM vehicles in our company fleet. Don't use anything more than a water dampened rag to clean and no protectorant afterwards. The dull finish is better than a peeling finish.
