Hummm thats odd... I did look up www.realoem.com and like you didnt find anything... so I just thought maybe their data base was incomplete... but if theres no specific area to recycle air inside the cabin where does it suck inside air from to re-circulate through the AC system?

I guess thats all I really need... if theres no specific place I want to know at least 1 place where it re-circulates air so I can spray some disinfectant stuff in there and hope it gets carried far enough into the AC that it'll kill the bacteria thats smelling up the AC.
You can just spray it at the intake t the microfilter when you run the aircond and put it at fresh air. Then you will know your disinfectant will be sucked into the system. Thats the only way I can think off.

Think I havent tried that? I have... but when I turn on the AC compressor the vents shut automatically and no matter what I press for on the recirc button the vent stays closed. I'm guess its because its too warm still so the car will stay in recirc mode till the interior is cool enough. Somtimes I dont like technology thats THAT smart. wont let me spray the dis-infectant into the system with the AC compressor running at the same time.

Ok you guys are talking about the filter that filters air from the outside and into the cabin...

but what I'm interested in is the INTERIOR one... when you put the car in re-circulate mode it only circulates air from the inside of the car like say when theres something smelly from the outside... most cars have another filter for that and its usually under the passenger foot well but I cant find it in the E60.

When you put the system in re-circulate mode it does not draw air from the outside so there HAS to be a location where the car is pulling air from, from the inside... and want to know where this vent is.
Nice, what tire sizes are you running on your 166's?

EB - FWIW, try running the system in recirc mode and check under the dash to see if you can "feel" the intake of air. It must be a door that closes between fresh/recirc modes so the blower has to pull from the inside cabin air and I'm betting it's a duct down near the blower fan. I don't believe there is a third filter...have not seen that in any other car nor seen mention of it in the OM either.

Good luck

Is there a real beenfit to turn on the AC before you spray into the vent? I simply turn off AC but keep the fan on and not in recirculation mode - this way the vent is open.

In addition, some suggested to turn the fan at highest speed. I have spray at both high and low fan speed - the low fan speed probably keeps the mist in the system for longer time.

The smell has been reduced, but unfortunatley not completly gone.

I couldn't find the return air vent either. Mine is 2004 525i.
