Insight needed - Selling my 5 Series
Hi,
I am a little perplexed at the lack of interest...i.e. 2 responses selling my 5 Series privately.
Wondering if anyone can give me some insight or ideas.
2008 528i with both premium and sport pkg & comfort access.
117,xxx kilometers
Not a scratch on it, brand new Pirelli Run Flats, All seals replaced last year, dealer serviced with all records. All service up to date & No accidents.
I am in British Columbia Canada and have it posted for $20900 obo.
I have ads running on Kijiji, Craigslist and Autotrader. Only two lack luster responses to my ad. Any ideas. Do you think the colour isn't popular? It is the only Barbera Red that I have seen in my area.
Ideas?

Not sure how the ad looks on Craigslist but make sure you are using keywords to get more hits. Also I think the price might be a little high. Maybe try it at 19,999 an see if that gets you more responses.

Thanks for the insight. I'll drop the price point and see if that helps.
I did seed the ad with key words so it will come up on more searches.
I based the price on competition ads. My car has slightly higher milage but is $2500 less and has more options. Plus the new tires. Damn I hate selling cars!

how can anyone give you a price to put it at without knowing the market in your geographical region? for example I could say "sell it for $100,000 if you were in certain parts of europe" but that does not pertain to you.
resale value on bimmers are horrible these days due to several factors. maintenance costs and fear among the top.
The color is nice!

Selling a car works the same way -- $20k seems like a much higher price than $19,999, even if the difference is immaterial. Marketing studies have proven this time and time again.
You must be bored.

AchtungE60 is absolutely correct. Is that price in Canadian dollars? Are the suggested prices converted from Euros to Canadian dollars? Euro to US dollars? We have people posting in this thread from three different countries that use completely different currencies.
OP, if that price is in US dollars, it's too high. If it's in Canadian dollars, maybe it's OK - I don't know what the exchange rate is. Keep in mind that the general car buying public isn't too keen on buying used BMWs with over 100,000 km or miles on them. Yes, I know there is a big difference between kms and miles - I think it's the "six figure use" factor that scares people off. They've gained a reputation for being costly to repair once out of warranty. Most people wont gamble with that. Be patient, you'll find a buyer.
