Isn't the license or whatever you call the "thing" that permits you to own a car in Singapore a $75,000 fee? I seem to remember my friend saying that (he used to live in Singapore). He said a Toyota Camry was ~ $80,000 USD there.

yep...i think its called certificate of entitlement (COE) not too sure bout the name. Its crazy....that's why I'm going back to indonesia once I am done with sch...no one follows the speed limit there...and no speed cameras, unlike Singapore. Singapore is a safe and beautiful country with too many goddamn rules...

I payed $81,000 for my 520i

My car is assembled in BMW's factory in Egypt. Has this not been the case, I would have payed around $130,000 for a 520i. How about that?

[/quote]Normally these hughe price additions are tax. If you import a car from a "low-tax-country", you'll have to pay that tax when you register the car in a "high-tax-country". On the other hand, if you who live in a "low-tax-country" buy your BMW in a "high-tax-country", you dont't have to pay that additional tax as it's beeing exported. In high tax countries, the tax-free price of the car is often lower (otherwise people in those countries couldn't afford a car...). The only way to get avoid these taxes is to move to another country or use the car in business (taxi etc).
