I had the same thing. Just give it a week and see if it goes away. Mine went away. The other option is to clear it with an OBD tool and see if it comes back. May have had a random misfire.

Quite a few things can cause the increase emissions warning. There really isn't one common thing that trips that warning. Like the other user said you need a OBD to clear it. Otherwise a trip to the dealer. Since your car looks to be under warranty still just take it to the dealer.

I just got this message also... So i took it to Auto Zone since they have the OBC tool. The guy was explaning to me that there could be a pin hole in one of my tubes and its allowing excess air in and the making the gas mixture rich.. Something to that effect.. i didnt really understand. Basically he said, this would cause my gas mileage to be pretty bad and it could damage my engine if i dont take it to the dealer to check it out. What do you guys think?? Im really trying to avoid taking to the dealer, I know its gonna be really expensive.

HELP Please!

Mine turned out to be a faulty pump (don't remember the name sorry), dealer took care of it under warranty and all is fine. Have a dealer check out the car, not AutoZone, that's no place for a BMW.

That is what was wrong with mine. Something like a DHLP pump/vacum with the fuel system (I'd have to look on the service paper). Basically the Service Agent said its quite common. A valve gets stuck and triggers the warning. He said the valve usually unsticks itself right away but the code stays in and needs to be cleared. They just replace the pump even though chances are nothing is really wrong with it.

Does anyone know if this would affect gas mileage? Seems like im only getting like 18/mpg since this error came on my car.

Im thinking I need to take it in but since i dont have warranty im scared to see the damage. Anyone on this forum in the Dallas area that can recommend an independant BMW shop that is reliable.

Thanks
