In reality, these cars are now nearly identical. The emissions, the crash protection, most of the lighting and the rest of the car are nearly the same.

It might not be that big of a problem to have it adapted. There are some companies who specialize in this and it probably wouldn't be that big of a deal. I don't know of a company name for it however.

not true, they are still quite different by emissions standards and you cannot get any parts in the US thru a BMW dealer..i am good friends with the service manager at my dealer and he has a very good customer that has a Z8 that is grey market and it cant pass emissions....he even wants to help the guy as hes bought many high end cars from the dealership, but they cannot get it to pass emissions, the system is completely different in terms of catalytics... not to mention that you have no warranty.....there is no price that is worth the problems you would encounter...just wait for the M5 touring, the money you would spend on shipping and other problems from a Euro spec car should offset the additional cost over the 550it

BMW USA pricing does seem amazingly cheap but that has a lot to do with lower taxes rather than BMW making more money.

If you compare the price of a 530i between the UK and USA -

US price - $51,300 (assuming 8% tax)
UK price - $56,800 (including 17.5% tax)

[/quote]

It is, the 530i in HK cost $679,000 HKD. Using an exchange rate of 7.8, the price is $87,051 USD

523i = $498,000 HKD = $63,846 USD
525i = $565,000 HKD = $72,435 USD
545i = $830,000 HKD = $ 106,410 USD

I know they are. They are saying BMW US is selling their car cheap because of less tax. But when you are comparing with HK and the tax we paid you have no reason to complaint.

I think we are not at the top in terms of tax though
