Here is the story in a little more depth. I bought my car 3 months ago from a private owner! Everything was running smoothly when i randomly checked under the car and noticed that the rear tires were almost GONE! i bought 1 Continental ContiSPORT COntact 3 255/35/18 tire in the back left and bought a used (OF THE SAME TIRE) from a tire shop with a patch, figured why not $200 less. So I was riding around with (1) Conti in the back left and just this weekend when the shop changed the right i started noticing this change and it is pretty dramatic. I took a little turn to the left and traction came on (thank God BMW has it standard) So now I purchased a NEW CONTISPORT CONTACT 3 in place of the used tire i bought from the shop and hopefully it will change back! So I will ultimetely on MONDAY have 2 STOCK runflats int he front and (2) COnti 3's in the back. My friend told me I could go a little wider with the tire size so i got the 255. please tell me if this was a mistake or if it can make that much of a difference. Thanks a lot for your help ALL, i really appreciate it.

Still what size rim - 8.0, 8.5?
Make sure your pressures are the same (check when cold), and make sure you have the tires mounted correctly (direction, sides, etc). You have OEM rims or aftermarket?

OEM Sport package rims 2005 530I i dont really know what size rim : (

Look on the sidewall of your tires...for a width, height and wheel size. It should read something like 245-40-19...or 225-50-17.

I hope the new one fixes the problem.
However, I'm not sure its a great idea to mix runflat and non-runflat, even front to rear. They have such different sidewall and roll characteristics. With runflat on the front, you'll get great turn in but may then feel the back end do something odd (because of more sidewall roll), but it would be the same feeling left and right turns.
PS: You could go wider but it depends on the rim size. With factory non-sport rims, 255 is probably the widest you can go. 275 will require a wider rim with the proper offset at that.
