Hey guys i don't know if this is old post. i was told by a friend of mine with a 05 545i with navi, that when he took his car for maintence without his request they updated his idrive software to the new version at no cost. is it possible when i take my car in for maintence i can ask them to update my idrive "i dont have navigation"?

 

there was an open campaign to update all 545s coming in to the latest software as part of a recall when i took my car in last month and it was done for free as part of warranty. i doubt the navi makes a difference because i think the update was to fix the gear shifts. what version do you have now, because you could get it updated for free if you are in warranty and are "experiencing an issue" that has been fixed on the newer versions.

 

Thanks for the fast reply, i am not sure of what version i have, it's a 05 525i CPO. i think the version is one of the first it not the first one. i am not experiencing any problems except like a small spec on the idrive screen, i believe it's a mess up pixel which is not displaying color anymore. But this is more like a screen issue. Software wise i would like to have the lastest version because it is much nicer and slick. what issues can i say i am experiencing??? to get this puppy updated.

 

Latest and greatest are not always best. If everything is working I would suggest you dont touch it. Depending on what you complain about they might just update certain parts and from a stability stand point that might not be the best. For a car if its not a security or safety or any added benefit that you can see dont do it.

Prior updates broke the eyebrows some caused the CD player to keep playing even after you stopped the engine, and if you dont have any transmission slams right now why take the risk and introduce that to your car?

 

wow. i don't know it can led to problems. i just saw my friends and the software looks really nice, the program on the screen is stainless instead of brown. looks nicer.

anyone able to provide me with some 'issues' as well? I am getting my care looked at wednesday...I complained that the idrive responded slow...they said they had to look at it.

 

With non-Nav I dont think you get that. I have V29.... pretty much the latest and greatest you can get and prior to that I had V23 when that nicer iDrive screen was introduced and I didnt get it. I think its only for NAV cars. us cheapies who didnt get NAV dont get that benefit.
