Hey guys,
My Idirve ad Stereo sporadically freezes, audio cuts off completely and Idrive does not respond. It can last anywhere from 1-10 seconds... Its sucks! I had Mtec angel eyes 2.0 installed and new battery (registered) installed. Not sure if related.
Any thoughts guys. Just ran out of CPO couple months back.

I've also had recent issues with the iDrive freezing up then appearing to go through a re-boot sequence that takes minutes. I recently had my battery replaced but have not done any recent mods.

if it's a short pause like that it could also be a break in the most loop (fiber optic loop). First place I would check is the one in the glove box where the service port is, since that was likely used to register the new battery. make sure the cover (bridges the fiber) is snapped on correctly.
if those are on tight, and you have a 545, next bet is the alternator. I haven't heard much about 6 cylinder alternators failing, or at least anywhere near as much as the 545 ones.

my idrive did the same thing, eventually it went out completly. After my local BMW dealer had the car for 2days, 7hey said there was a short somewhere, charged me $750. After I got home, it started rebooting again, and after 2days went out again. Next visit, they replaced the CCU(I think that was the acronym, was the computer for the unit.)
works fine now, but they charged me another $1200(credited me $500)...so good luck, hope it is something simple, but II must say I hate this idrive now that I had to pay $2000 to get it working again. Otherwise the car is a joy to drive.........2004 545i 80000 miles

i my idrive just crapped out also. Was working 100% then got my car tinted. Picked up my car and im not sure what they did, but as soon as i got in the car i got the SOS malfunction light, got no audio at all, also got a high battery drain error and a PDC malfunction error and my nav is restarting by itself... arggg... Owner of the tinting shop is willing to pay for the fix. I got an appointment this wed at the dealership, i realy wanna know what caused this issue.. my guess would be water got into some modules in the back or in the doors during the window tint. I saw couple threads where people had the same issues after tinting their windows, unfortunately there was no followup;s... also i tried the usual 3 button restart, battery pull... nothing.. anyone got ideas?
