iDrive/software upgrade
My E60's prod date is 09/2005 and I believe the software was never updated since birth.
I'd like to get the latest update on to enable reading mp3s from cd among other things. Here we go:
1. Which is the best/safest way to do it, go to BMW dealer or can someone with Autologic do it also?
2. Will the update flash the ECU also? I don't want to lose the remap.
3. How to find out the software version I currently have without connecting anything to the car, I remember there is some hidden command for iDrive.

A full upgrade via BMW will wipe your remap. If you don't want this to happen you will have to go to someone who can upgrade each ECU manually and skip the ECU that stores the map.
The idrive command is not a fool proof method, it gives you the software on the CCC. But there may be several other modules that need an update.

Not too bothered about map, since I can always just put it back on after the upgrade.
Ireland sucks so much from a coding perspective and just people with enough BMW experience in general.
Can the upgrade be done through Autologic/NCSE?

Well BMW dealers utterly useless as usual. I can't believe such a huge manufacturer offers such shitty after sales service.
Called all of them in my city and they don't do software upgrades unless there's something wrong with the car or you got some errors on the dash.
Wish I was in a real country.

My 2005 E60 was updated at 2008, I didn't ask for it but the local dealer did it unter warranty. Can also be done by Auto logic.

The MP3 retrofit to the CCC system will require the vehicle software to be upgraded. That is how my 2004 E60 ended up with the updated navigation software. The MP3 retrofit procedure itself calls for updating the vehicle software to v20.00 or the lastest.
BMW SI B65 30 05 - CCC: MP3 CD Playback Not Available (MP3 retrofit)
Expect a labor fee of 1.5 to 2.0 hours. Defective modules that interrupt the updating process will add more labor time.

I've been told it can be done. You should use a battery tender to charge/keep the voltage on the car battery. Search updating DME with Progman. You need software cables etc... PM AchtungE60, he seems to know how to do it and it's simple (according to him).

In Dublin myself just read you post about the lack of Knowlege here in Dublin from BMW in General, shocking to be honest. Just wondering did you manage to get your car coded ? I have recently got fitted Dension GW 500 and BTA 1500 Bluetooth kit, My car has the single slot cd player only but is wired for the the changer with a spare cable in the glovebox, I have phoned 3 different dealers here and based on what i have picked up from the web forums etc, my understanding to get all the above new kit working in my 2006 E60 530D M Sport i just need them to open the cd port and upload the KMP3 file so the dension will work, anyhow as per above i had one garage tell me it will take 4 hours to this??? Nuts, I was told its a 10 minute job max and they have quoted me a stupid amount of money to do it.
Just really want to know did you find somebody with real knowlege and Auto Logic so i could get my car done ASAP..
So if there is sombod out prefarebly in the Dublin area who can help me please get in touch.
Thanks
