Hi All
Has anyone got a solution on how to dim the iDrive sat nav screen at night - ideally when the headlights come on? Alternatively a night mode option?
I've gone through all the options I can find on the iDrive, have found how to dim the screen but that's dim all the time and not just at night?
Surely I'm not the only person who finds this dazzling at night?
I'm hoping for a simple answer that may make me look silly for not finding it!

I've looked myself. I cant find anything so I just have just turned my brightness down to below half. Thats fine for most driving. Bright enough for the day but I do switch it off for night time driving using the steering wheel button.
Was the sat nav DVD from BMW themselves? From what I have read they do update the I drive when you first put it in, whether it makes any difference day to day is another matter.

Use the slider below the light switch? It'll also dim the rest of the lighting as well such as cluster. Doesn't go down as much as if you turn down the brightness setting, but it's something.

I would love to see this feature too, my wife's Honda has this for the NAV at night - it not only dims, but the map switches from white (and other colors) to black so it's even less distracting. She loves it too, great feature.

I agree this is a needed enhancement - hell I bought the cheapest Garmin in car GPS for my jeep and it even turns to "night mode" at dark.

Thank you all for your replies, don't feel such an iDrive novice now!!!
I've tried the dash dimmer but as you say it doesn't do much and I like the brighter orange dash
I also use one of the buttons to switch off the screen when it's too bright at night
The disk I have just bought was a genuine one from BMW - £220 for a CD - robbing b*******! It did update the iDrive but nothing that I could find.
