Have any of the recent software upgrades improved the speed of response of the iDrive. My Sept 2005 model can take up to 20 seconds to acknowledge the controller input.

Everything else works fine, If only the response was immediate I would have no problems with the iDrive.

Is the response time only a problem with cars fitted with prof Nav?

I have a friend with a 530i w/o NAV and his iDrive response time is definately quicker than mine with NAV. However anything near 20 seconds seems very long to me.

I have had numerous software updates and I haven't noticed any huge changes with response time.

My Ride: I have a 2007 Black Sapphire BMW 530i with SMG. It has the auburn interior, has PDC, Sports Package, Premium Package, rear automatic sunshades with manual side sunshades, 35% black tint, Upgraded angeleyes from Angelibrights, and Logic 7 Sound System
Model Year: 2007

i have 2007 530i without navi and the response speed is still delayed like around 3-5 seconds, but 20 seconds is way too much, you might want to contact your dealer.

Car with Nav response much slower than non-nav as I had on my old 530i.
CCC has memory expansion slot, and I'm wondering if it can be fitted with some kind of memory to increase the speed.

I received the latest software update during my last warranty service and there was absolutely no difference in NAV or iDrive response times. I think that the processor they use in the car is just too slow.

The iDrive is so slow, I can only assume they are running on old 286 processors from 15 years ago.

Cost cutting, at it's worst.

I have a July 2006 delivered E60 with Business Navi and do not have any delays with iDrive.

I know from colleagues with Professional Navi (in 5er and 3er models) who complain about delays with the system. Sounds to me as though the whole map/split screen features need a lot of processing power, which BMW have unfortunately forgotten to give it!

Computers are so damned cheap, though. How could this get left out?

We're not talking about a Hyundai.... this is BMW. People pay premiums for quality. Just give us the quality, damnit.
