Hey all. Long time lurker, first time poster. I am glad to finally begin to contribute to the forums.
I have an 08' 528i and use my Ipod for music. It's hooked up through the USB jack, and so it functions with the knob through iDrive. Everything else is recognized besides my playlists. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how have you resolved it?

Thanks.
Jack

Thumbs up

Any reason you are not using the iPod cable (this is a special cable designed for using an iPod with this option) instead of just using the USB?

It's not intended to work the way you have it.

Hmm.... I didn't know that there was a special cable. I am using the regular cable that comes with any ipod that has the ipod size connector on one side and the usb connector on the other side. I am supposed to purchase another cable? Or do i plug it in somewhere else? I am plugging it in from the inside of the console.

Thanks

For iPods, the system is designed to work properly ONLY with the special iPod cable that uses both USB and aux.-in jacks (it?s a Y connector, essentially). Your dealer should have provided you with this if you are in the U.S. In other markets, it?s optional.

BTW, if anyone out of the U.S. needs one, I have an extra

So basically it occupies both the usb and aux jacks at the same time. How do i know if my car is equipped to use an ipod? Is the fact that i have both a usb jack and an aux jack the indicator that i can use it?

yes, if you have USB and Aux In Jacks, that is the iPod option. Get the proper cable and it should work just fine...

Edit: When we purchased my wife's X5 back in May, the dealer failed to include the cable. It was properly included with my new 550. Jspira is correct, in the US, the cable is incldued as part of the option. Go back to the dealer and get your cable.

Sounds great thanks. I didn't get any cables with the car. I got the car about 2 months ago. Unless its hidden away in a special place in the car, they didn't give it to me.

Unless they don't give it or say that they have, how much does the cable usually run?

I think it?s in the $50 range, not sure but that?s what I recall. But they HAVE to give it to you, it?s included in the purchase of the car in the U.S.

Maybe my extra will come in handy?

Well I'll call up the dealer tomorrow and hopefully they'll be cool about it. If they want too much for the cable maybe I can get the extra one from you for a better deal. Thanks for all the help guys.
