He guys, I picked up an BMW North America Version 2008 dvd off ebay, however when I put the dvd in my system, nothing happens. Do I need to put the system in some sort of mode for this to update?

Screen gave me an alert to turn off system for 5 minutes while reading new DVD.
(I wasn't sure if I had to turn off engine or reset NAV)

I turn off engine and got out of the car (with key)....restart my car in few minutes (I cleaned up trunk area meanwhile)...
and it was reading new DVD automatically.

Hope it helps

There is NO installation of software. You place the disk in the DVD drive and that is all the installation you have to do. If the disk is good or works, it will ask you to turn your car off for 5 min and then it will work. If it does not work, I tend to believe that you did not purchase the correct disk or is not an authentic (maybe a burned disk with a laserjet cd sticker to make it look OEM) Sorry to hear and good luck getting it working.

Unlike the earlier BMW NAVs there is no 'software' loading into the NAV from the DVD. I wonder if you bought an "original Navteq DVD or a copy ... if the latter it may be faulty. The correct map DVD is the Professional ... and your car will take up to 5 minutes to 'recognize' the new DVD.

If you don't have an owner's manual [very helpful for car features / operation] they are posted on the info section of this forum. http://www.e60.net/information/

Do u have a recent idrive software. Here in Holland it's not possible to run the newest Nav DVD if you haven't the most recent software update.

Does the installation of a "good" Nav DVD affect Nav memory? I have almost 100 addresses in that memory. Would sure like to know ahead of time if it is going to be wiped out.

I loaded a disk from my buddy and now my nav is frozen, so I think I need a trip to the dealer.
