iDrive memory loss
Hi all,
I experienced an odd problem today where first my keyless entry didn't work. Then when I opened the car manually using the key and started the car with the key inserted, i discovered that all of my iDrive settings had been deleted -- all of my radio presets, my shortcut buttons, my preferences on lighting, etc.
My garage door remote wasn't reset, and the clock didn't need to be adjusted.
Any ideas as to what happened?
On the theory that my battery might be weak, even though I'm not getting a warning that it is, I'm going to charge it tonight.
Thanks for your thoughts.

It does sound like the battery is failing....get it checked out before you need a tow to the BMW dealer!
Same thing happened to me twice, its been about 6months since its happened, and it has not happened again since.
However i have discovered that when using the second set of keys which never get used, I have no memory functions stored whatsoever, no radio stations none of the 8 button presets, so I am thinking that the key stores this information for different drivers, so if i had memory seats im guessing each key would remember its position.

When you say the same thing happened to you twice, do you mean that your comfort access/keyless entry didn't work as well?
Interesting. Thanks for the reply. I was wondering whether my car was somehow not recognizing my key, and whether this had something to do with the settings all being reset.

no when I say the same thing happened, i mean everything had seemingly been wipped, including time and date, dont have comfort access.
This actually happened to me too! Couple of months ago within the first few weeks of owning the car. I went to the car grabbed the handle so comfort access can take over to open the door. Nothing happened. It wouldn't open. I tried unlocking it by pressing unlock on the key fob. Still nothing. I had to manually unlock the door with my key then when I started the car up all my settings had been erased. I redid my settings and it's been fine since. I didn't think much of it... Hopefully it's not my battery dying!
