Thumbs down

Hey everyone,

I had something very strange happen on my E60. Recently my front brakes had under 4K miles remaining, so the dealer installed new front brakes and now the front brakes read 25K remaining, which is fine....

HOWEVER, when I went to the dealer my REAR brakes read 11K remaining... the dealer said they are not due yet... I leave the dealer, and iDrive still reads 11K remaining (which is how it should be, since they didn't touch the rear brakes)... then all of the sudden today my rear brakes read 42K miles remaining, out of nowhere??

I am wondering how this can possible happen... any ideas?

Had something similar on mine recently

Said I had 7k and 6k front and back respectively left.

Then Yellow dash warning light came on sayin brake pad wear indicator saying they needed to be done.

After a week or so light disappeared.

Display now down to approx 2k

Very confusing - don't know which one to trust !

That's an interesting issue... I never saw the warning triangle though, since the car doesn't seem to be at the rear brake replacement interval... or so I think?

For your case you better have your dealer re-check that... and hopefully they didnt reset the rear brake pad counter. I'm not sure if the brakes are measured with an actual sensor or just calculated with miles driven...

Engine oil, micro filter, spark plugs etc etc are all calculated by idrive using miles driven and how hard you've driven the car... I'm venturing to guess Brakes can be too so the more city driving and start and stops the car assumes you're using more brakes and on high way it knows you're not so it recalculates and hence the ever changing numbers... varying by a few hundred to 1000 is normal... but from 11k to 42k isnt...

again I'm not sure how the brakes are measured. maybe a electronic sensor... maybe a physical sound sensor like old cars maybe by milage... but hopefully a sensor and not by milage...

7k or 2k either way I am sure you are due new pads as either is very low. That is very close to less than 10% left at best and any dealer should say replace.
