Anyone else have their iDrive freeze constantly when starting up? I get just dashes for my date and times and it's completely unresponsive. After a while it reboots and all is good but this is very annoying! I took it to the dealer and they said they have to upgrade the software and do programming so they took 320 dollars and did just that but it still happens. Any one else with this kind of problems?

 

I've had similar issues but have heard so much dislikes about the iDrive that I figured it was common and decided to just live with it.

 

had to have the computer for the idrive replaced on my '04 545...to the tune of $2000 dollars! I don't trust this car anymore, too much computer control....hope you have a simpler solution

 

I wonder if the only way is to get a CIC retrofitted

 

Here is what my dealer did to fix this problem.

 

Mine is at the dealer since Thursday with same issue, had the screen go blank and the flickered a couple of times. Then my settings went from Miles to KM and temp from F to C. no radio or bluetooth functionality. Waiting for the verdict.

 

I get this exact same problem. Only happens on infrequent startup, time and date are replaced with dashes, and I get an SOS disabled msg. When this occurs nothing works, no stereo, no PDC, and the iDrive is entirely unresponsive. One thingive noticed is my DVD navigation drive hums along while in this state as if it were attempting to load or track or something.

I've taken mine in for warranty, dealer couldn't reproduce but did upgrade SW and recreated the bootfile. None of this seemed to help (although my system is much quicker now). Fortunately it doesn't happen very often. What I found is that you can either wait until it times out and restarts, or turn the car off and wait for it to enter sleepmode before restarting.

Anybody have a source for this issue?

 

Occasionally my iDrive reboots itself or freezes. If it freezes I manually reboot it and it'll be ok for a few weeks.

 

I've had similar issues with idrive with my 04 545i, i also had to live with it.

 

The only solution that worked for me on my 2006 550 was a new CCC unit...
