idrive died and came back to life - anyone ever experience this?

My Ride: 2004 545i Sport Pak
My idrive screen went dark yesterday. Hadn't started the car for a week or so. Took it 30 miles. Parked for 7 hours, and the when I started it up later that evening, idrive working again as if nothing ever happened.
Anyone ever experience this? (btw, my car is a 2004 545i Auto w/Sport Pak)

My Ride: 2007 550i, Mystic Blue over Auburn, 6-Manual, Sports, Premium, Cold Weather, Logic 7, Nav, Sirius, MTec Front & Sides with M5 rear apron, VIS Penta carbon fiber vented hood, OEM M166s, (or Style 101M with winter 19 Blizzaks), BMW Blue Calipers, Custom Quad Exhaust and M5 side grills, trunk finisher and spoiler. Rogue Octane SSK/WSR and Zeckhausen CDV, BMW illuminated shift knob, Delivered 4/26/06 - Ordered 3/18/06 from Otto's (the Best) BMW Dealership.
My car did this 3-4 times when it was less than a year old- it took the dealer about 3 tries to get it fixed but they finally did. No issue for the last 5 years...

I started it up, and it was blank. I tried fiddling with the controls and turning on radio, but nothing. I was able to check headlights, but not much else. Dash seemed OK, and did a system check and this indicated OK.
Thought about pulling over so I could cycle power on car (turn off and then restart engine) but I was in a hurry to catch a meeting. Forgot to do so once I arrived. Later that eve, I started car and all was fine.
I had a portion of the unit replaced in 2007 time frame while it was under warranty.
Any clues?

I also experienced it once. IT went completely black, no radio.....nothing! Then came back on its own. Strange.
