I thought the force feedback was cool. It lets you feel without looking how many sub-menus you have scrolled past and when you get to the end.

My Ride: '08 550i, carbon black, sport package
My 04 originally came with nav-prep only (no nav) and there was no force feedback. Once I had the nav retrofit done, I had force feedback.

I have a 2004 530i, no navigation. I've had no iDrive problems but recently drove a friend's new '05 545 and his controller worked differently. At the end of each submenu, i.e. when I finished scrolling to the end of a list, the controller would physically stop, like a radio knob turned at the end of the dial. My controller doesn't do this. Is this something new or is mine broken??

I thought all E60 with I drive should have force feedback.

I have an 05 545i w/Nav & Sirius. It has force feedback that varies with the menus selected. On the Sat menu you can scroll about 10 stations before you meet resistance. When you turn past this it feels like you are stripping gears on a transmission to get to more choices. Takes some getting used to!

I thought all E60's have it, at least all that i drove...

My 2005 530i (no NAV) does NOT have force feedback. I'm glad!
It does 'end' at the end of a scrolling menu, though, without returning around to the start... just like a radio dial. You get to the end and you cannot turn past that point. The knob will continue to turn, however. It just doesn't do anything.
