Hi All,

Wondered if anyone ran across this problem. I have a 2005 545ia with navigation. When I go into the navigation menu to enter a manual destination it first asks me to select a state. The menu has the first 5 or so states so i spin the idrive knob to the last one until it stops. Typically I then move the Idrive button down to get the next 5 states but it does not respond with the next five.

I tried to actually 'force' the idrive to spin past the first 5 states and it worked but I encounter a lot of resistance from the controller to get there (does not spin smoothly and it feels like i am going to strip the internal gear).

Has anyone had this happen? Do I need a software update? The scrolling seems to work fine with my address book and everything else.

Thanks in advance.

I belive this is normal on your car. It's the haptic feedback. They did away with the haptic feedback in later years.

I know exactly what you mean as noticed the same on my 07 530i which I picked up last week. The perceived issue is also happening when browsing through long lists of songs.

Does any one know if they are experiencing the same in vehicles produces after 09/06?

There is nothing wrong with your car. It's designed that way. It's kinda cool at first (how did they do that!) and then just becomes a minor irritant.

So there is no danger in 'stripping' the idrive spin gear when I force it then?
