I set my screen to split screen--typically my entertainment screen is on the left, and either the "Onboard Info" (usually) or the "Trip Computer" is on the right. If I am using navagation, then it is on the right.
What;s this split screen option? Is it only available with the Navigation screen? I have the standard screen and I havn't come accross anything that indicates that I can split it. If I could, I'd like to see the Entertainment and Board displays side by side.
I am glad this thread came back to the top. I was looking for it a while back. On my 545i, with NAV, the screen is split automatically, and there is no option. On my wife's X5, with nav, one can choose between a single sreen and a split screen. I am not sure what happens if one does not have nav.

What is TP traffic announcement, I dont get it, is it a feature in all e60s?

You can skip it by pushing one of the arrows on the right hand side on your steering wheel, or the arrows to go to the next CD track, on the right hand side of your CD drive.
TP is a service that is standard. Radio stations air a signal which gets recognized by the radio. The radio than stops playing the CD or whatever it is currently playing and plays the radio station, so you can hear their traffic announcements.

Split screen comes with nav pro only (that is the only nav in the US). You don't have an option to split or not split. It does it automatically.

Thanks for the tip on how to get rid of the "Accept" screen. Will try it when I get back into my car.
You know where it the "temp guage" for the 5 series? It's built into the tech meter.
Cheers!
There are small markings in the tachometer that appear/disappear before the redline. This is an implicit temperature guage...and if you observe it early in the morning on a very cold day, you will see more of them between 5000 and 6500 rpm. As the engine warms up, these markings slowly disappear starting from 5000 until you see no more of those upto the redline.
I wanted to post a picture illustrating the above...but dont know how
I see. That is what he meant. Yes, I have observed those too. And, for an earlier question, I am not sure if you can exceed these "tentative" redline numbers.
That's absolutely right. When you start a cold engine you will see 8 lines. Once the engine warms up to the optimal operating tempreture you will only see 3 lines remaining. If after driving and you find no lines then you better start worrying!! Could mean over heating!! Glad this tread resurfaced!

No nav (nor interest in one), but I do use the programmable steering wheel buttons: Upper to extinguish idrive screen, and lower to toggle through entertainment (FM,AM,CD), and do so using radio PRESETS, thanks to you guys!

I forgot a useful technique earlier. It turns out that the joystick often can be used as/thought of, in effect, as a back button--because among other things moving and holding the joystick lets you toggle among the main functions of the iDrive. One of my desires is a dedicated back button, or the equivalent, for the iDrive.
