The same thing happened to me, but on my e46 a few years ago. The dashlight indicated my right brakelight was out, but it was still lit. The car was under warranty, and I was in the area, so I popped into the dealership to ask what was the deal. The SA told me that the system is extremely sensitive, and actually detects the weakness in the bulb's filament prior to it actually snapping so you can change it in advance for safety reasons. I'm not sure if that's actually the case regarding the system's sensitivity, but they put in a new bulb and the dashlight went out immediately. I imagine you can pick up a new bulb for $5-10 at Auto Zone. A lot of times they come in two packs, so I just go ahead and replace both since the other one is the same age and likely to blow soon as well. That's my .02 anyway.
