I saw an Acura with the plates GOBMW.. lol
There are a TON of HARDCORE auto enthusiasts around the detroit area, not many can actually drive though. I am on the north end of town (M59) Most of the stangs I see are driven by women or woman ish drivers (Same with Cameros). A drag race around my house seems to hinge on who has the most burn time... speed isn't the real factor? I don't get it but that must be how rednecks race.
For me: I prefer that most of those drivers don't know that I have some power under the hood. It is my experience that drivers are not aware that some 5 series are very fast and either don't bother to insight me to race or have no hope of winning in say a merge situation because I got a really good jump on a faster car.
I also find it pointless to race vehicles that are much faster than mine. I know most of the specs on others vehicles and in THIS environment I don't want to give some GM head the satisfaction of beating an Import especially a BMW. (Saw a Corvette plate a few years ago that said ATEABMW)

My Ride: 2006 525XI, Jet black on Dakota beige. Premium and winter packages. I consider myself a purist and intend to keep my car absolutely stock and shiny.
2008 328I Convertible, Sapphire black on beige interior. Premium package, NAV, iPod adapter.
Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.
How much horsepower is the Dinan package supposed to give?
Not wanting to rain on your parade, but a stock 5.0 Mustang can break into the 11's. He probably did not know how to drive, or rebadged a V6. Your car stock 0-60 is aout 5.5 seconds. A Mustang can do it in under 4.8 with sub 3 second 60' times. If you pulled on him it was driver error.

The cars are equal in a straight line, but if you add a few twisties it would be lights out for the Mustang. Bottom line, most readers here can easily afford to buy a Mustang. The reason that we don't buy a Mustang is because we buy the whole driving experience, the intangibles that money just can't buy.....

My Ride: 2006 BMW 550i "Ben Hogan's 5 Iron"
SilverGrey/Black Sport, L7, NAV, CW, AS, Split FR
2003 Audi A4 3.0 CVT "Part of the Moniker"
Silver/Ebony, Prem, CW, Star 17s
Actually, there isn't much difference in the 545 and 550. Znod ran many drag tests (many posted here) and his 545 was as fast as any 550. 5 flat 0 to 60 in a stock 545 was a solid average for him. 550 is a tad heavier but the 4.8L is smoother and more fuel efficient. Both are nice motors.

man....if you drive anything other than the Big 3 or some shit they own...everyone gives you crap....this BMW is my first non-Big 3 (or subsidiary) vehicle. people give me a hard time daily...until they see my baby in the parking structure, hear me start her up, hear that Super Sprint exhaust roar, see those big ass 20" deep dish wheels rolling, etc.....then they sing a different tune lol
we should do a Metro-Detroit meet sometime this summer.....somewhere on Woodward.

Went to my first Detroit cruise week on Woodward. OMFG. Car heaven.
Saw just a couple e60s. That said, a 67 vette in the right color just can't be beat. And the vintage camaros are really nice. I'm sure these cars influenced BMW in later years.
