Thumbs up

Hey Everyone,

My brother is working in Dublin, Ireland right now and he'd like to lease a car for a temporary period of time while he's living in Dublin. Having seen my 5 series here in the states, he'd also like to get one. He's on the company budget and would like to stay under 1000 euros/month on a 3-year lease (may be longer). Does anyone from Ireland or the UK know if he could get an e60 for this much on a lease? Do BMW dealers in Ireland/UK do their own leasing or do you have to go through a seperate leasing company? If a 5 series is out of the price range, what would you all recommend as a close substitute? (i know this is almost impossible to fathom, but try your best to think of one)

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Anand

Anand,

You may have unwittingly insulted many of our Irish friends!!

Ireland (The Republic of) isn't part of the UK! It's pretty close, but as you've noted, they work in Euro's rather than Great British Pounds
Also, they have a distinct disadvantage over us in the UK, as their car prices - for sales and leasing are horrendously expensive. We feel sorry for ourselves on the Mainland, but there are other Country's that are penalised even more than us for our enjoyment.

As for your question - I can't help because I don't know enough about the market.

As for the Irish - I'm English through-and-through, and I consider them to be a great people, with a lovely Country - your brother will love working there.

Mike

Mike, I feel like a jack ass because I realized later that the Irish aren't a part of the UK and are a republic. So sorry if I offended any Irishmen ! Hopefully someone will chime in now, since I've been corrected!!

Hi,
Try this site (as an example) "http://www.frankkeanebmw.ie/contentv3/index.cfm?fuseaction=page&pageID=9731&parentID=888 5"
520D for 749 Euro a month.

I live in Dublin and work in the centre and as Mike said we get screwed when it comes to cars.
Tax on the 520 is 800 euro a year, petrol here is not as bad as the UK at around 1:25 euro a litre now.

Leasing cars in Ireland is not that common. We just buy everything, get into massive debt and then spend the rest of our time down the pub trying to forget all the money we owe.
As for Ireland not being part of the UK, it's a common and understandable mistake to make.
Only this week British Telecom had an advertisment which was talking about London 2012 Olympics and said that all of UK will be involved from Donegal to Durham.
Donegal (where my wife is from) is actually in Republic of Ireland.
So if a company like BT can get it wrong then anyone can.

Good luck to your brother working in Dublin.
The craic is mighty !
