I turned in my '06 550i about 3 months ago, and after driving a 7 series for several months, I find that I do miss the 550i quite a lot.
I was trying to be financially prudent and buy the e38 740i, having owned one before and loved it. However, I miss the complete package that is the e60. The 740i is a very nice car, and for a 9 year old car which cost me under $20k, its quite a find. But, its not nearly as fast or nimble as the 550i, and I find myself a bit bored while driving.
I've pondered a few other cars, but thin the 550 is a perfect blend of sport, luxury and fun, with the real world practicality for those of us with kids who need a rear seat!
So, I'm starting to look for a nice pre-owned 550i, preferably 08-09, sport, 6MT. Maybe alpine white or space gray. Under 15k miles. Keep your eyes out for me...LOL.
Perhaps I'll be back soon.

Pete, you have pretty much desribed why I keep coming back to the 5 Series -- and the V8 model in particular. Good luck in your search for another 550. There are some good deals on buying the leftover 2010 E60 550s as they have $6k manufacturer to dealer cash (although the lease deals on them suck right now).
Wonder if they have many cars left?
Are there any sales guys on the board?

As for a new 2010 550i, there are no more left in NJ. After I purchased mine on 3/31/2010, there was only one left which was sold last week to a member @bimmerfest.
If you want an Apline White/Beige with manual, you can go to Tulley Automotive in Mashue, NH. Check their website, it is advertise as an automatic for $57,777 (MSRP $68,820). BUT the car is a manual. I know because that was the car I was going to purchase until I saw photos of the actual car which it showed a manual. The car was built in April of 2009 and it been sitting in the show room since then. If you want to see the photos of the car, I can forwarded to you.
By the way, BMW incentive for a 2010 550i is $7,500. As for the 550i in Tulley, I believe they would sell that car for around $56.5k to $57k.
This is exactly why I cant get away from the 5, 3 is too small if you have children or anybody who ever rides in your back seat & 7 is too big to have any kind of "sporty" feel. 5 FTW! We'll welcome you back with open arms
