BMW 535d: 0-100 km/h 6.0 sec, 0-160 km/h 15.0 sec
Who would have belived this of a diesel about five years ago??
But I guess that we do not have to wait for long for a twinturbo gasoline engine from BMW!

That was my original point about the confusion of 0-60mph used in the UK and 0 - 100km/h (62.5mph) used by BMW and Europe. The difference between the two is bigger than most think
Exactly!!!! I mean come on another 4km/h in 0.5 seconds!?!?! Too much if you ask me. It take 6 sec dead to reach 96km/h and over half a second u're only at 100.
I think the main point is that BMW's 6.5s to 100km/h is too conservative...
I reckon 0 to 60mph in 6.0s and 0 to 100km/h in about 6.2s (May be a little quicker if you don't have any mechanical sympathy at all!)

I love reading the test figures in the UK Autocar magazine because they're always figures they obtained from their own tests not the boring manufacturers where the 0-60 is the same as 0-62 regardless.
Makes interesting reading I think.

I would expect Merv to have bought on performance alone However, I would of thought the 535d beats all of the above on mpg too!

Merv impressive figures and a great car but I'm wondering why you bought the 535 my guess was its the mpg figures and not the performance so above really doesn't matter yea. Only my opinion I'd be more impressed if the mpg was top and not the O-60 etc as I say only my opinion but a lovely car and health to enjoy

Hey I'm only quoting Autocar's figures. Yes if you drive it like I do and I know you will you won't get 34mpg apart from on the M'way, however, if you get down to 23 mpg in general footdown driving conditions inc round town the petrol equivalent will be down to 16/18mpg.
Ya gotta love diesel I drove a friends 911 carrera 4 tiptronic the other day and yes it was quicker than my 535d etc and all that but it didn't have that low down explosive acceleration you get with a BM diesel.

Are you for real?
Of course mpg was quite important but how about 272bhp AND 560NM of torque? If i would have wanted mpg mainly i would have bought the 520d. This diesel is not just any diesel. It's a car that can take on a 545iA and that's something right?
