+1 to the overload (or thermal) protection theory...it makes the most sense from a logical standpoint.

The L7 amp has a bunch of fans that, after a period of loud listening, can be heard spinning even after the car is turned off!

+1

Yes, the top hi-fi amp ( L7 ) and the new Individual Audio amp are far superior in design to the hi-fi amp. The entire body of the amp is one big heatsink, and there are two cooling fans. They are temperature controlled. In the picture shown here, the fans are located on the plug side of the amp. The amp should be installed with the plug side at the bottom, as shown, for best cooling efficiency.

No, unfortunately the issue is still there. As I expected, the dealer couldn't duplicate the issue, but I can always get it to cut out if I want to. I think they just didn't want to deal with it. My guess is what Ricracing said above. It's probably some overload protection system.
If you can always get it to cut out, you should then ask them to have the shop foreman come out so that you can show him how to duplicate this problem. My advice is for you to stay on top of this and be persistent. Do not let them get away with this. G/L

Except that in the end, if it is, in fact, some sort of protection kicking in, it may end up being that everything is working as designed and there's nothing anyone can do about it...

Yes, it could be the amp overheating and going into thermal protection. Your amp is easy to access if you want to use your hand to check temperature. If this is the problem you could add a cooling fan or upgrade the amplifier to solve the issue. In this photo the Hi-Fi amp is the box in the center, between the SAT and the TCU. (The SAT tuner has better cooling then the sub amp, it has a cooling fan and a large heat sink.)
I don't know why I thought the amp was under the seat. I never really researched it. It is good to know that it is so easily reached. I'll have to check it out and see how hot it gets and if it's feasible to attach a cooling fan. I also think the thing to do is research and consider an amp upgrade. I upgraded the speakers (BSW) so a better amp might be worth the investment. FWIW, the issue was present before and after the BSW upgrade so that has nothing to do with the problem.

There is no way the BSW speaker upgrade could be related since your hi-fi amp only powers the subs. ( BSW does not offer subwoofer upgrades for the under-seat location ). Your head unit/ radio is what powers the front and rear speakers. It is just your bass that has been cutting in and out right?

Did you ever get the problem fixed.. Cause I had the same problem till my bass totally went out. My car was non logic 7 also. I had thought that the box with the green dot on it was the amp but I guess I'm wrong.. so now i have to figure out how to tech out the smaller box i guess.
