With the numbers of miles he drives per day, I say it's not bad of a decision. Driving around 18,000 miles a year considering the warranty he gets on the car and gas /tax /insurance, I think it's a wise decision.
What is the warranty on the car? how many years/mileage?

6 year bumper to bumper fully covered or 150k miles. He got a pretty good deal considering that Toyota just increased all the prices on their Hybrids due to the gas crisis.
Out the door after taxes and maxing out gap coverage and all that warranty crap it was 28500.
Toll is apparently 2.50 (half off) if you're in a hybrid and the that "no carpool" restriction is not too shabby.... At the end of the day tho... It's no e60

I do agree it is no way near an E60, however buying a used E60 does not guarantee 0problems, plus even if it is a CPO, it will not give you 6years warranty. Considering how much he drives, I think that's a wise decision (wise for a company or work car, not family car).
I have a friend who traded his 3 Series for a Prius. I smacked him around for doing that in the first place. Then, shortly thereafter purchased the E60 for myself. He actually drove me the 180 miles to pick it up in the Prius.
Now, every time I pull into his driveway (or when he visits here)I get to hear about how he misses his BMW.
For what it is, the Prius is OK.
