True but at least it shifts on demand, so technically you could shift at 6,200rpm
Also keep in mind that the 328i weighs half of what the 545 does.

Hmmm well the i do believe the 328i and 335i are actually the same specs branded for marketing.. 230hp? I mean my 530i is putting out stock 225hp since 2004 and most likely about 235-240hp with some changes (lighter wheels, no spare upgrades etc etc.) And if you've ever driven a newer E9x you'll see their auto program has a lot to be desired i mean it was much better with the E46! Thoughts?

335i is 300hp.

To the OP:
I had a 335i a few times for a couple of days and you could feel the boost which is fun. I also had a 328i loaner in the past and I think it is anemic.

My theory:
1. The 328 is newer and may possibly be in better condition (545i's are 6-7 years old).
2. You were in a wrong gear
3. He's a better driver than you are

There are just too many variables. I don't think you can safely assume that your car's condition is the same as his and his driving skills is the same as yours.

Must be wrong specs.
I'd rather have an 03-04 M3 to be quite honest. 335hp stock, Better Engine, easier maintenance and less overall to worry about.
I think there is a difference in the sedan and coupe. Coupe is showing 300 and the sedan is showing 230hp shown below.

http://www.edmunds.c...ures-specs.html
  • Base engine size: 3.0 L
  • Cam type: Double overhead cam (DOHC)
  • Cylinders: inline 6
  • Valves: 24
  • Valve timing: Variable
  • Torque: 200 ft-lbs. @ 2750 rpm
  • Horsepower: 230 hp @ 6500 rpm"

If you drive naked, take out the floor mats, drive with only a 1/4 tank, you'll win. LOL! Sorry -- old joke from an old thread from a member who was banned here 7 times. Hahahaha!

By definition, isn't this statement overly redundant? (technically, I guess the ban could have been lifted 6 times, as unlikely as it seems!)

What are the details of the "smoke"?

Not sure why... I know your 545 has a little less HP and torque compared to my 550i, however I test drove a well maintained M3 (i think 2005 or 06) and it felt slooooooow and unresponsive compared to my 550i. I was very surprised. i would be surprised if a stock 328i would smoke a 545 in any way. Unless you had 5 people and multiple sets of golf clubs in your car.

What are the details of this race(streetracing)?

Dead stop, at a roll, how fast were you going, what gear were you in, what RPM did you shifted at?
Were you in auto mode, or manual? Were you carrying any passengers or heavy junk in the trunk? How much gas was in the tank, any mods on your car? Are you up to date with all maintenance?
