On the LCI cars, the bars don't move. No pic needed, just look at your car after it's warmed up -- that's what the LCI cars look like all the time...

 

I understand, the feature is gone...

 

Did BMW change this in one of the latest Progman versions or is the instrument cluster just different in LCI? Too bad, I like the feature and I?m worrying if next Progman update will take this away... Can some pre-LCI owner with Progman 25 - 27.xx confirm this ?

 

Mine is pre-LCI with Progman 25 (or 26.01 depending on whom you talk to) and my white bars still move around.

 

I don't think it is a matter of progman update, this seems to be a "feature" on 2008 models.

Iqord, thanks for the pics, now I know what was being discussed in some of the replies. My car is a 2007 LCI model and I was pretty sure that I did not see anything out of the ordinary on the rev counter when I was reading the manual. It is a pity that it is not available in the LCI version as it is a rather neat feature. Tend to agree with Rudy that this is not a temp gauge (in the normal sense in that it warns you when the car overheats), but rather a feature that is put in place to warn drivers not to rev too high when the engine is cold which is useful in cold climate countries.

Regarding the low coolant level, I don't seem to see that it will flag it thru the i-drive when I read the manual eventhough I don't see why it can't given that it can do much more sophisticated things. My previous C class MB was able to do that. OK, the manual says that you can check the coolant level by opening the coolant expansion tank and read off the indicators (did not look that straight forward to me), then the manual also said if the engine overheats, the i-drive will issue a warning to check the coolant level. The way I undertood this was that the system will not give me a prior warning that the coolant level is low and could lead to overheating but only when it overheats which to me could have been prevented had it warned me of the low coolant level.

I can confirm that, if engine temp is too high first I-drive shows "yellow warning" cool down the engine. After that I-drive shows "red warning" engine too hot, stop immediately.
Service guy had forget to connect fan plug after changing some things under the hood. I drove without fan for three days, at the beginning i was thinking that this is caused by extreme hot days I must acknowledge that if you drove at higher speeds than 30 mph there is no problem with engine cooling.

 

I got the low coolant warning and at the same time one of my reverse bulbs blew. Changed the bulb and checked the coolant level, which was low and I topped it up.
