On earlier S/W, the mute issue arose because when the CD was playing, if you pressed the round button, it would continue to play with no sound but with no pause either.

Regarding "turn the radio on" before you start the car, this means that if you press the round button before you turn the key, the radio will start playing and the disclaimer will not appear.? I can't confirm that though as I have never tried.

Was excited to try your work-around, didn't even realize the radio would turn on without the key in - cool, however, once the key is turned, the warning still comes on. At least it does in my '05 525i sport package without Nav (production date 9/04).

well that sucks, i have a sept 03 build with i think 13.2 s/w revision, and it still works on my car when i enter i push the radio button i comes on and when i start the car i dont get the disclaimer, if i remember correctly the idrive screen doesnt even waver or flicker. But i will try again once i get back into town away on business, so of course the wife has her pick of cars 90 e34, 96 caravan, 04 530, or 05 volvo xc90 guess what she is driving when i spoke to her yesterday (yep 04 530 go figure)

Can't wait to try this. I hate waiting for the radio.... I am skeptical...

Tort reform. It would fix a lot.

Not yet! What I saw in UK and in Ireland... "Have You had insident/accident in past ... call us and find out if You can sue ... no win, no fee!" If this kind of commercials get more common in Europe and they get response we are too in that US like lawyer shit! It's always someones fault and they have to pay and of course individual does not have to think or understand.

Sorry about that!

I don't get it, who cares if you push a radio button or the idrive button? I start my car in the garage, put it in reverse, hit the PDC & idrive button/knob without looking and go about my business. Warning is a non-issue, can't remember the last time I actually saw it.

We can't blame it on *all* laywers, only BMW lawyers and the management that cows to their pressure. Other cars in the US have compex nav systems. Many, like MB display the nag screen then automatically dismiss it after a few seconds.

Again, this is a BMW issue.

Doug -- I'm not defending lawyers, just placing the blame where is should be.

A little off topic, but don't you prefer to start the engine with the radio off and all windows down so you get the full effect of the 545 starting?

I agree that BMW is doing this...

But they are doing it because of the lawyers!

You can't blame them for it. Blame the lawyers!

Let me set the record straight on this. Honda, the Japanese king of ergonomics has a complicated NAV system in its flagship Acura RL sedan. You have to wait for the system to boot, albeit not as long and yes you have to accept the lawyer disclaimer.

For more on Acura's system click here

Well guys i must have been upgraded to another software version i can no longer turn on the radio to defeat the idrive warning screen. Oh well i guess the lawyers of BMW got wind of this and had the programers fix a fix that was not a problem. Guess we gota use the nav with tv divice to get some other form of input on start up.
