I-Drive Question and S/W version

My Ride: 2004 545i - 6 speed manual (July 04 build), silver-grey/black, sports package std equipment (18", active roll, active steering, adaptive headlights), premium sound, bluetooth enabled, folding rear seat, lumbar, 3m hood/bumper protective film, rear tint, euro reflectors.
Last time I had any S/W upgrades done was when I enabled bluetooth back in November of 2004. I was wondering if there was a way to check what version I had. My SA said the only way was to hook up a scan tool.
Secondly, I was in a 2005 a couple of weeks ago and I thought it powered up with "BMW" on the screen. Mine powers up with the stupid text message about not using while in traffic. I think I know that by now. Has BMW changed the home screen on newer s/w versions?
