I am having a problem with my i-drive. I searched the forum and could not find a similar problem, so I thought I would post what is happening and see if anyone else has had this issue.

Driving home yesterday I was talking to a friend on the Bluetooth through the car. After a few minutes the i-drive screen went blank and than came back on with BMW. It was fine after that so I just wrote that off as being a glitch.

This morning after a few minutes in the car the screen went blank again and did not come back for 10 minutes. I pushed the knob and the menu button with no response. I'm sure this is coincidental but the screen came back to BMW when I dialed my cell phone to make a call. The screen than kept re-setting. It would come on for a minute and than I would see a fuzzy screen and than blank. It did this 3 or 4 times before normalizing.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

It could be a software problem or the CCC could be bad.

Only the dealer can diagnose, however.

I had the same problem about a month ago with the i-drive on my '05 545 and took it in for a diagnostic. In my case, the M-ASK was throwing all types of error codes and causing my screen to go blank intermittently. Also, all audio and i-drive functions would not work when the screen went blank. The dealership eventually changed my M-ASK unit in good faith since car was barely out of warranty.

My audio or other functions did not work either. Do you know what the cost is to replace the M-ASK unit? My car has been out of warranty for a while.

I recently had exactly the same problem. It seemed to happen while navigating and playing MP3s at the same time. I-drive blanked, reset, then came up with BMW. First trip to the dealer, they just reset the system, which didn't help. Second trip, the SA said they would probably replace the computer but opened a case with BMW first. BMW told them to replace the "Intelligent Battery Cable" which I guess contains a circuit board. No problems since.

The dealer initially quoted me $2800 , parts and labor for the M-ASK replacement and said that it would take at least two days to complete the service. After pleading my case, it took all of 6 hours to replace and program. Hopefully, it's the "intelligent battery cable" like "cokeefe" previously posted or something simple. GL.

I called the dealer after reading the other members posts and was told that the labor to replace and program the M-ASK was $570. The SA told me that it was a 5 hour job. I did not get a qoute on the cost for the part. Would moisture possibly be the cause? We have had a lot of rain here lately and that is when this started to happen. It was fine yesterday on my ride home from work (no rain).

Thanks again for the replies!!!
