Our 545i was built in 1st week of April 04. 6000km (US spec, living in Germany). We were on a highway in Paris in a traffic jam (bouton I believe in France) I had the navigation system on 5km display and noticed it wasn't moving. Menu button, and i-drive knob didn't do anything. Display was frozen like a Windows blue screen of death with no way to reboot. We drove 40 km to a gas station. I stopped the ignition, waited a few seconds and started the car again...still frozen. After we refueled the car and ate lunch, started it up again and the system had reset itself. No problems since then (1 week ago).

yeah, Mine did that too.....see cut and paste from previous thread.
Also, the other day, I spotted a problem on my route (M4 closed), so I diverted around Swindon.....Nav didn't like this, went beserk, telling me to take a U turn, then locked up, then all buttons failled to work, then the stereo came on at full volume - pulled over into some services, switched off the car.....stereo went off. Was walking into the services to get coffee - about 30 meters from the car I heard a stereo so loud it must have been making the vehicles occupants ears bleed - then I realised it was my car - stereo had switched itself back on. The only wway I could shut it up was to pull the fuse......then it was fine. Anyone experiance similar?
