I used for a week a 535d Touring as a loaner during a long service on my 530d.

I pass over all the obvious differences between the 535d and my car but for a little strange thing I noticed concerning the I-drive knob.

On my 530d the knob can always rotate freely, it doesn't matter in which part of the menu you're.

On the loaner 535d, the knob, when you're in the opening page, cannot rotate at all; you can just turn it for a few degrees if you force it. If you engage one of the four options available, up-down-left-right, then some mechanism releases the knob that can fully rotate for 360?.

Curious, but not unpleasant. The feeling is that of a better and more sophisiticated mechanism that doesn't allow you wrong moves in the different part of the program.

Did anybody else noticed it? Is it standard on all m.y. 2005 cars?

For my 2004 car, the idrive knob works this same way. It always moves only when you are able to move it with software choices. I think all the ones are supposed to work this way.

Its force feedback. I have it and its not very useful. It actually fights me in many situtations, where I have choices available, but it simply doesn't want me to go there...

Yup its available on cars with NAV... I learned that after... I didnt get NAV thinking for $1800 for a option that I dont use or really need. but then later I learned you get a LOT more stuff with NAV than just NAV itself...

1.) Force Feedback wheel
2.) Voice Commands
3.) Larger Screen
4.) upgradeable to 3D Nav... (* I would have gotten it if it had 3D *)

Am I missing anything else?

Thanks Lomag, now everything is clear. In fact my old 530d had only Business Nav while the loaner 535d was equipped with a full Pro Nav!

This forum is really great!

May I have a similar forum covering the whole complexity of life? You know, a right answer for all those questions that usually bother humanbeings, who we are, where should we go, how can I go to bed with that chick and so on.......
