Thumbs up

Two days ago I had a software upgrade of my 2005 525d, and I had no problems when I picked up the car. MP3 was enabled and worked for the CD, (not the CD-changer). The only other thing I noticed was that the startup screen was brighter, and the navigation colors a bit different from what I was used to. I believed this was due to the software update.
When starting today, the i-drive screen was black and the radio, CD, navigation, speech-control or anything controlled from the i-drive did not work at all. I believed the i-drive system had lost its power supply, had a breakdown of the computer or had some kind of connector problem. Switching the ignition off/on several times and starting/stopping the engine made no difference. However, when using the car some hours later, everything seems to work as normal.
On Monday, I?ll of course call my dealer to get an explanation.. . In the mean time, I wonder, has anyone else had the same i-drive experience?

Not uncommon but you are following the correct course of action by contacting the workshop.

This also happens with my 2005 530i. It occurs about once every 2-3 months. The idrive is black and nothing works. The car has to be turned off for sometime before things come back.

I have taken it to the dealership 3 times for this. Each time they tell me they can find nothing wrong. I told them, the next time it occurs, I will bring it straight over to show them.

something wierd also happened to my car...the screen didn't black-out but was locked at the last screen before it hanged...(in my case, satnav menu) the i-drive controller had no force-back response and the audio(cd,radio,etc...) did't work. even pdc didn't work. this happened after a couple of months upgrading the software to progman v27.x

after leaving the car for a couple hours later, everything went back to normal...what is actually causing this to happen? i have never gone through this situation before with previous updates, but with this version, it made me panic for a while...
