At 7100 miles I checked the oil level in my wifes 530XI and it was full. Today at 7900 miles a warning came on, check oil/ add a QT. I stopped to do a measure and it showed min. I added a QT. and the level never changed. Please give me a dipstick. Any experience like this? Thanks

There have been problems with the oil level sensor reporting irregular readings on some 2006 vehicles. I just had mine replaced after my SA submitted a PUMA on this exact issue with BMW. Bring your car in for service and don't add any more oil until you talk to your SA. A new oil level sensor will likely require a software upgrade as well to recode the car with the new sensor.

Refer to http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=20942 for more details on what I and others have encountered. I don't know if this problem is unique to the xi trim, but it seems to be a pattern.

I still cannot understand how BMW could remove the dip stick. I don't care what computer systems they have, I still sense the need to physically check the oil level. Guess ill have to remove the oil pan at every fuel stop.

BMW should have left the dipstick in there... have the iDrive oil check checker but manual dipstick for redundancy...

HEY guys.. whats this black dipstick on the new engine?

http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&showtop...ndpost&p=200492

is it the transmission dipstick?

Wonder if my SMG has it... I havent checked... nor noticed it...

I believe the 545 still has a conventional dipstick. Looking at the owner's manual, it appears that only the 525 and 530 trims rely exclusively on the electronic sensor.
