Default I discovered an oil leak!!

so I never noticed this before, perhaps because I park my car in a garage and never cared to check, but a couple of days ago after returning to my parking spot I saw a puddle of oil. I stopped, checked it out and it was oil. Damn!!

I will have to rake it in, hopefully it's not a big thing, sigh...

check the oil drain plug first...sometimes it gets loose if it wasn't installed at the right torque.

First post on this forum.

I had a similar oil leak on my wife's E61. Took it to my local dealer and they told me the oil was leaking from the oil filter housing. Seems like a common problem for this model. Ended paying ¥40,000($450) for parts and labor.

First of many oil leaks! My favorite one was the alternator mounting bracket seal. It was awesome, gasket cracked and dumped 5 qts of oil out the bottom! Be careful of that!

Wow, i will take it in and have it checked. again I hope it something as simple as the oil drain plug, or the oil filter housing.

One of many leaks? hmmm i hope not! My 545i's got 175,000 km on her and she's been running beautifully.
Crossing my fingers, will keep you guys posted.

175,000 km's; and never had to change engine gaskets/seals on a 545i?

I think you're in for the $2000 surprise; I'm sad to report.

Sorry to say.. yes, first of many leaks. I do hope it's something simple. But eventually, it's coming! I recently discovered oil leaks, and was told the Valve Cover Gaskets were leaking the most. Had that fixed at $1600, and later was told the other leaks weren't as bad.. but would cost $5K to fully correct them. And this was from my indy shop. Right now, it's not worth me spending $5k on minor oil leaks. Plus, I don't have it to spend. Good luck

If you just keep the hood closed all the time, no leaks... until you see a puddle on the ground. :-)

Sadly, with BMW's oil leaks are not if, but when. Usually the culprits are rubber seals, gaskets, and plastic covers (ie. valve covers). I sure wish BMW would improve their seal technology (eg. viton)
