Was in a similar position...Newer G35 vs an older, not nearly as powerful 5er. After having driven a G35 for a few months and becoming very familiar with it, I still preferred the Beemer in the end as the overall feel (handling and styling) was what pushed me over the edge. Yes, the G may seem like a bang for the buck type purchase but i don't think it's an apples to apples comparison against an e60.
Screw it...go green and get a Prius

lol Why not lease a Hyundai Genesis which has 10 year warranty, n is roomier, stronger, quicker, more gadgets, best fuel economy in its class, nice nice interior
and same audio system that rolls-royce phantom uses?
seems like u are lost,, u were wanting most bang for the buck in an auto? or was it pursuit of the feeling that you can not get from driving a car other than bmw?

Take advice from ME. I just had a 530 and it got totaled, then I jumped into a 08 G35XS. I have to say the only thing I think this car has on my 530 is SPEED. Besides that IMO the car sucks in every which way. Infiniti claims its a AWD, LOL I took off the traction on wet pavement and I had the thing doing circles. The car handles like CRAP at high speeds its hard to keep the car steady. I do like the seats better on the G just because I didn't have the upgraded seats on my 530. They way the 5 took turns compared to the G is like night and day. I actually have to question myself if I can take a turn, when I had the 5 it handled like a champ! IMO I would have rather got a 328 instead of a g35, just cause there really isn't a car that compare to a BMW. BOTTOM LINE!!!

IMO, the "new" G35 body style looks dated already.
I used to own a G35 coupe, and it is no comparison to a BMW. Fit and finish is way better, more solid than the G. I found that the G35 always revved higher and I always felt like I had to drive like a maniac. With the BMW optional regular Drive mode I can have a leisurely drive, and switch to sport if I want a bit more oomph.
Also, when you get a new BMW with your desired options, it is better than the ones you test drive from the lot. I was very surprised when I got my BMW built to order and how much different it was compared to others on the lot. What I am saying is that you should find a new BMW 5-series to lease if you can afford it. Great incentives at the moment.
If you don't mind the size, the BMW 335i sedan is fantastic and comparable in size to the G and more affordable than the 5-series. You cannot beat the .9% financing BMW is offering on new models until the end of December. Plus you can get near invoice on pricing. I got a great deal from Adrian Avila from BMW of South Atlanta. He will hook you up. I got such a good deal that I drove 6 hours from Orlando to Atlanta to pick my 535i up.
I did test drive the Infiniti M before, and I have to say that I liked it, but it is no BMW. It is similar in price to the 335i, though with more space.
Do your research and do not be impulsive. You don't want to kick yourself if you make the wrong decision. Now is the time to lease or buy a new BMW.

Also the MPG from Japanese manufacturer is not as good as most people think
Japanese is good at small 4 bangers, like motorcycle engines or rice cookers. Big blocks japanese made have never been good anyways.

Choice is up to you....if you consider another Bimmer, you should check another dealer, as that 5.9% seems kind of high. Mine is a '06 CPO, and I got 2.9% for 60 months through BMW, and that was in Oct when I bought it.

Looks like bmw CPO financing is even better now through 31 Dec.
0.9% and they make the first 2 payments....doesn't get much better than that........

the reason for that guys is the VQ engine in the G35 is from renault.
To the OP - if you can live with the loss of space, the G37 is a fine alternative to a low end E60, although its true BMW competitor is clearly the 3 series.
