Hmmmm, the 'stock' 255hp 330i dyno'd at just 200hp (20% loss). Assuming similar loss it equates to 340hp...
Right now V8 commands almost $8,000 premium over 255hp I6 but gives one a car that is almost 1.5 sec faster to 60mph. I am not sure anyone will be willing to pay so much more if the difference is only 0.2-0.3 sec.

BMW's 0-60 times are only 1 sec apart for the automatics....Not nearly enough for me to justify the $8-9000 difference.

1 second out of 6?... That's 17% you can apply to any numeric value you choose?

The price premium is for more than just the engine. The V8 engined cars also have additional equipment. In day to day use the difference (which in reality is more than you suggest) is immediately obvious and is where the 8K was spent.

That's great and all....But still, performance wise in this vehicle currently, it would have cost me a little over $9000 to get the same options on the 550i. Not worth it right now. Period.

My 530i has every piece of equipment that the 550i that I was looking at had, and there was still the price difference. So, for me, I can put that money into 166 wheels, tires, and stocks....But, to each his own....

You'd have to add at least the premium pack and dakota leather before you start comparing, plus there are wheel and tire differences (with or without sport). The MY07 brochure shows most of the differences.

My vehicle has everything but ventilated seats, pdc, and rear seat heating (it has the heated seats)....Comfort access, L7, Sport Package, Sat, Nav, Premium Package, Cold Weather, Xenon and adaptive lights package.

Listen, I am not trying to start a pissing contest, but it is a big price difference for not much gain off the line. Even if I bought the 550i, I would have splurged for the total driving package not just off the line acceleration.
