I am about to adjust the HUD height in my car because it seems too low, about 2-3 inches above the bonnet. By the time my eyes get to it, I may as well have looked at the dashboard. Is this typical? How high is it feasible to adjust it? Having it at eye level would be nice, but that might be distracting/dangerous. What have others done or seen?
TIA

That is the hieght that I have had for 3 years. It worked fine for me. It can be adjusted by the dealer.

Where does it seem to appear in relation to the front of your car? Does the image appear just over the hood or somewhere else?
Originally mine was about 2-3 inches above the hood which, I believe is standard. My wife couldn't see the bottom of the display even with the seat at the highest setting so I had my dealership adjust it higher. They were able to raise it about 2 inches from where it was and they said that was all it could be raised. You have to be a little careful because raising it changes the viewing angle and you could have an issue with part of the image (the lowest part) being a little blurry. My tech suggested that I be there when he did the adjustment to to make sure the entire image was clear for my viewing angle.

If you're seeing the entire image, I'd say try to get used to the location. For me, it sits right above the hood and clearly it's easier to focus on than looking at the dash. It's not as much about how high but how much less your eyes have to refocus each time you look at the road vs. the dash.
If you start to move it around, you may end up losing the top or bottom of the image since I think the movement is designed more for taller or shorter people who have trouble seeing the whole thing. To see what I mean, move your head way up as if you were taller (or way down as if you were shorter) and see what happens to the image...

Yes, I see the entire image. It just seems low. I guess you're saying this is where it is normally. I can live with that.
Thanks!

As I said before, for fun, just lower your head a bit from your normal driving position at watch what happens to the bottom edge of the HUD display. Once you see that, I think you'll have a better understanding of what the adjustment is for...
